Neighbors, more details are being revealed about the tragic school in St. Louis that claimed the lives of 3 people, including the gunman. Police claim that the shooter’s mother called about the riffle used in the shooting days prior to the attack to have it removed from their home, but somehow needed back up with the gunman.
Orlando Harris, 19, opened fire at Central Visual and Performing Arts High School with an AR-15-style rifle on Oct. 24. He killed two people, student Alexzandria Bell, 15, and teacher Jean Kirk Kuczka, 61, and injured seven others. Police then killed Harris at the scene. Now, investigators are discovering the shooting could’ve been prevented.
On Oct. 15, Harris’ mother called the police to report the AR-15 she found in her son’s room. She demanded police to remove the gun from the home. When the police arrived, they determined that Harris was in legal possession of the riffle, so they technically couldn’t remove it from the home. They decided to transfer it to a 3rd party so it wouldn’t remain on the premises. From there, police are unsure how Harris regained possession of the riffle and proceeded with the deadly attack.
“While it is not yet clear when or how the suspect came to be in possession of the firearm after this incident, we can confirm that the firearm involved in this incident is the firearm used in the shooting Monday,” police Sgt. Charles Wall said in a statement.
We previously reported that the shooter left a manifesto claiming that his life was a “perfect storm for a school shooter”. His family reportedly knew of his mental health struggles and tried to help him numerous times by admitting him into mental health facilities, giving him medication, etc.
“I’ve got to give credit to the family — they made every effort that they felt they reasonably could. That’s why the mother is so heartbroken over the families that paid for his episode,” Sgt. Sack said.
