One of the country’s biggest retail groups, Spar, is embroiled in racial scandal that allegedly involves promoting white retailers and side lining black retailers.

BEE retailers are allegedly given no support from the DC when the feasibilities do not match. They are treated more harshly than white retailers. More favourable terms are given to white retailers versus BEE retailers. 

According to the letter addressed to spar:

“White retailers are treated differently. They don’t have to pay but blacks have to pay. White people would be given a year without having to pay. I was given a loan of R3 million but ended up with a debt of more than R4 million,” he said.
