According to information, the incident occurred on Monday evening (11:00PM), August 9, 2021, at a check point along Nteje in Oyi LGA of the state.
According to one of the victims, he says he, his elder brother, Chinonso and his deceased cousin, Chukwuma Adazu, were returning from a site at Aguleri when Navy officials suddenly opened fire on their car.
The bullets immediately killed Chukwuma Adazu and left him and his elder brother with gun shot injuries. Currently, they’re being hospitalised at a yet-to-be disclosed hospital.
One of the hospitalised victims narrates:
“I, my elder brother, Chukwunonso Nebolisa; and my cousin, Chukwuma Adazu, were returning from my site at Aguleri, when the Navy officers suddenly open fire on our vehicle.
My cousin died on the spot, while I and my elder brother sustained bullet injuries. The men on duty on realising we were unarmed, helped stop a vehicle that took us to the hospital.
We got a police report to that effect before my cousin was able to be deposited at the mortuary and the remaining two of us have been taking treatment at the Hospital for three days now.
Just at about 11pm last night, August 11, some men identified as police officers by the hospital security guards, came in a commando style and took my elder brother Chukwunonso Nebolisa, alongside my two younger brothers who were attending to us. Up until this morning, August 12, we are yet to know where the police took them to.
I was awake and so I had to hide before they came into the ward were I was receiving treatment, that was why I escaped.”
