Information reaching Kossyderrickent has it that North Korea has fired a ballistic missile over Japan for the first time in five years. (Read More Here).
Japan says the missile appeared to have flown over and past its territory this morning before falling into the Pacific ocean.
Residents have been warned to shelter from falling debris.Japan also temporarily suspended train operations in the northern part of the country.
There has so far not been any information on the type of missile involved or how high it flew.
Japan’s government has described the incident as a “threat to regional security”.
“North Korea’s series of actions threatens the peace and security of Japan, the region, and the international community, and poses a serious challenge to the entire international community, including Japan,” top government spokesperson Hirokazu Matsuno said.
Prime Minister Fumio Kishida also called North Korea’s actions “barbaric”, and assured that the government is continuing to gather and analyse information.
