Taking to their various Twitter pages, Nigerians began to revealed why Nigerians abroad become less religious. Some of the reasons were hilarious while some were full of facts.
Answers from Nigerians below:
Wilson’s Queen tweeted: “The problems that make you pray are not there. You can’t pray your taxes away. You must work am.”
King D tweeted: “There’s security, so they don’t have to pray against untimely death.. There are jobs, so they don’t have to pray and sow seeds to get jobs. Living in a society where things work, obviates the need for prayer.”
Olu Alufaa tweeted: “It’s because they never knew God when they were here. It was poverty that drove them to church and not the love of God.”
King Burna tweeted: “Nope, we just stop praying for basic amenities.”
Other reactions below:
It’s because their eyes opened once their legs touched the place said to bring religion to us, and you discovered that they don’t even go to church, then what will you do?

Because many are thought to be religious for personal reasons – pray for job, food, new car, health… the things that the government should provide..
and others, are just religious to make themselves “look good”.Abroad, you are religious because you truly want to

More like asking:
Why do adolescents go wayward when they secure university admission?
Single narrative bias— exactly what’s carried in the 2 questions.
Some remain the same or even become more religious there.

They’re realised most of their prayer points are government responsibility and not God’s,

You don’t have to pray fervently everyday to be paid for work you did, for Nepa to bring light, for stray bullet to hit someone else and not you, to eat….
— Boy Wonder (@Elvis_corp) December 15, 2020
Because they found out angels actually don’t construct roads nor build bridges, nor make nepa bring light so you can iron cloth for an interview. Only in Naija angels are called down to do extra work way God initially no send them.

when the state starts meeting ur needs u dont need divine intervention again na. there is so much uncertainty here that is why we are religious but not really spiritual
— Kachy (@kachy_great95) December 15, 2020
The truth is that people here are not as religious as back home …by the time you move here you will realise 90% of stuff we pray for are just basic needs provided by the government ..it will make u ask yourself y they gave us religion n took our brains
— Iron-Man (@EnebeliSam) December 15, 2020
So true, I was definitely skeptical before I left, but I fully abandoned it a couple of years after I moved to the diaspora. I think a lot of people are low key non-religious in Nigeria, but there are so many pressures preventing them from expressing their true selves.

That’s when we realize that religion should merely be a means of building a personal relationship with God, not a means of alleviating poverty.

Because they will realize that God has instilled every thing in us to make life beautiful and worth living. While the make judicious use of their God given talent, we don’t.
