Najib Razak and his entourage spent $259,724 at a hotel owned by ex-US president Donald Trump in 2017, according to a US congressional report.

The report says Najib stayed at the hotel for $10,000 per night.

He also spent $8,000 on lunches and $1,500 on a personal trainer.

According to AFP, the jailed former prime minister had stayed at the Trump International Hotel’s presidential suite.

At the time, Najib was under investigation by the Department of Justice for his role in the 1MDB scandal.

The documents show that officials from Saudi Arabia and the UAE also spent hundreds of thousands of dollars at the Trump Hotel in 2017 and 2018.

Representative Carolyn Maloney, a Democrat who chairs the committee, described the findings as “extremely troubling”.

She said the documents show that officials who stayed at the hotel were “seeking to influence American foreign policy.”

She added that the findings “call into question the extent to which President Trump was guided by his personal financial interest while in office”.
