“2) of the 3 #monkeypox infected children in Brazil – one had contact with an infected relative. The other two cases are still being investigated. Kids under 8 and immunocompromised are at highest risk of severe disease. This is why we need to stop this!

“3) last week, the @CDCgov also reported 2 cases in kids in the US too. Keep in mind that, unlike COVID that affected elderly more severely in 2020, #monkeypox affects kids more severely. This is why we stop transmission—so that we shield kids & vulnerable from outbreaks later!

“4) the Biden WH / HHS needs to declare #monkeypox a US public health emergency ASAP. Others in Congress are also advocating for the emergency declaration that can unlock more emergency funding and hiring.

“5) This is the graph of a public health emergency. Don’t wait for #monkeypox to start hospitalizing people before acting. Acting LATE IS NOT BETTER THAN NEVER. Late can be too late in a pandemic emergency!

“6) the Biden WH / HHS also needs to fix whatever the misinformation nonsense is coming out of the @CDCgov these days under @CDCDirector Walensky’s watch. They are now putting out some really weird misinfo against #monkeypox being in the air despite studies showing otherwise.”

“It is important to highlight that he had important and serious, severe comorbidities, so that it does not lead to a great uproar in the population, thinking that the lethality is high. The lethality remains very low”, said the secretary.

According to the State Health Department (SES-MG), the patient resided in Belo Horizonte . Earlier, the Ministry of Health had stated that the man was from Uberlândia, in the Triângulo Mineiro.
