Who’s Mmusi Maimane? – Mmusi Aloysias Maimane is a South African politician, the former Leader of South Africa’s opposition Democratic Alliance political party from 10 May 2015 to 23 October 2019, and the former Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly of South Africa from 29 May 2014 to 24 October 2019.

Mmusi Maimane wrote:

“We must scrap Life Orientation and replace it with critical thinking and general knowledge.

“The future economy needs robust analytical skills, robust problem solving and independent thinkers.

Let us adequately prepare our learners for the future workplaces and economic opportunities. Let us design our curriculum to give our young people a chance to win.

“The subject I propose – Critical Thinking and General Knowledge (CTGK) will be worth full university admission points not half like LO

It will be challenging and will equip students to answer essay questions in other subjects like Economics, Business studies, English and History.

“I am tired of hearing that our young people lack ability, that they have no skills. Our young people are brilliant, they are talented and they are hungry for success.

They have been been failed by the system. A system that has set low expectations and designed subjects poorly.

“No thread on our failing public education system would be complete without pointing out that Minister Angelina Motshekga has been in that position since 2009. It is time for her to rest.”
