Minister of Health Joe Phaahla has revealed that they have arrested 124 fake doctors following a crackdown by the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA).
Majority of the fake doctors were found to be undocumented foreign nationals.
In response to a written parliamentary inquiry from Vuyo Zungula of the ATM, Phaahla stated, “According to the Health Professions Council of South Africa, 124 persons have been arrested for practising medicine without registration with the HPCSA.”
Recently, A Congolese national, who was found practising as a medical practitioner in Kuruman while not registered with council was arrested. SAPS from the Douglasdal also arrested an Illegal Zimbabwean fake doctor, Mr Simba Koromani, who was found to be an impostor.
