A Saginaw man found himself in jail after calling 911 to report he paid a prostitute for a service she was unwilling to provide.

The 34-year-old man placed the call at 7:52 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 25, requesting police to his residence in the 2100 block of Brockway Street, according to Saginaw Police Detective Sgt. Matthew Gerow. The man said he had paid a woman $10 for a sex act, though she reneged on the deal.

The man told police he wanted his money back, Gerow said.

The 24-year-old woman was still present when officers arrived. There was no physical altercation between the man and woman, Gerow said.

Officers arrested the man on a misdemeanor charge of accosting and solicitation and the woman on a charge of prostitution. Both were free on bond on prior home-invasion felonies. Cops arrested the caller for accosting and solicitation. The woman he accused of breaching their contract was reportedly hauled in on a prostitution charge. Both are misdemeanors. However, both parties arrested were out on bond related to home invasion charges, Michigan Live reported.

There’s no indication the pair had a physical altercation. Police officers in Saginaw stay busy, according to ABC News, which reported in October the 44,000-person city’s violent crime rate surpassed that of Detroit to become the fourth-highest in the nation. Law enforcement reportedly blames staffing shortages and funding cuts for some of the central Michigan city’s troubles.

Prostitution is illegal in Michigan, where “Soliciting, accosting, or inviting to commit prostitution or immoral act; crime” is listed in Section 750 of the state’s penal code.
