Information reaching Kossyderrickent has it that Marvel has recently had talks about bringing back the original cast for a new ‘AVENGERS’ movie, which would include reviving Iron Man and Black Widow.
Money talks, and a high enough paycheck might facilitate the above returns, but both Downey and Johansson have been pretty open about wanting to move on from the MCU. As Johansson clearly said on Gwyneth Paltrow’s podcast earlier this year, “Chapter is over. I did all that I had to do.” When Downey as asked by Extra this year if he’d want to do another Iron Man film, he suggested that they should ask Tom Cruise instead of him, stating, “Does he [Tom] want to do that?” Addressing Cruise, Downey then advised, “Don’t take it.”
This past September, a group of Marvel creatives, including studio chief Kevin Feige, assembled in Palm Springs for the studio’s annual retreat. Most years, the vibe would have been confident — even cocky — given how the premier superhero brand, owned by Disney since 2009, has remade the entertainment business in its image.
But this occasion was angst-ridden — everyone at Marvel was reeling from a series of disappointments on-screen, a legal scandal involving one of its biggest stars and questions about the viability of the studio’s ambitious strategy to extend the brand beyond movies into streaming. The most pressing issue to be discussed at the retreat was what to do about Jonathan Majors, the actor who had been poised to carry the next phase of the Marvel Cinematic Universe but instead is headed to a high-profile trial in New York later this month on domestic violence charges. The actor insists he is the victim, but the damage to his reputation and the chance he could lose the case has forced Marvel to reconsider its plans to center the next phase of its interlocking slate of sequels, spinoffs and series around Majors’ villainous character, Kang the Conqueror. In addition to Iron Man and Black Widow’s demise, Chris Evans’ Captain America ended up an old man in the last Avengers film. The introduction of the MCU’s multiverse could be one possible way to bring the deceased characters back. The second season of Loki has continued to explore the multiverse.
Again, it is also possible that the original Avengers gang could make a comeback in one of Marvel’s upcoming ensemble pictures- 2026’s Avengers: The Kang Dynasty or 2027’s Avengers: Secret Wars. However, nothing has been confirmed as of yet, and the revival seems too far in the future.
