One of the witnesses in the R. Kelly trial refused to take the stand after his house was shot up!
Journalist Jim DeRogatis is infamously known for being the first reporter to speak about R. Kelly’s pornography tapes in the 2000s when he received one of the tapes anonymously in the mail. This prompted the 2008 case against R. Kelly, in which he was acquitted of all crimes. Fast forward to the current case taking place in Chicago, DeRogatis was being subpoenaed by one of Kelly’s associates’ lawyer to take the stand to testify. DeRogatis, though, refused due to his concerns for his safety.
He claims that one of the windows in his house was shot at due to his long-standing “beef” with the singer and he doesn’t want to be part of the case any longer. He also feels as though his testimony will do nothing for the case, given that all the evidence has already been presented.
U.S. District Judge Harry Leinenweber ruled DeRogatis would not have to testify after all. He ruled that his testimony was not necessary and he didn’t have to be involved with the case any longer.
