Kgomotso “Gootso” Maleka shot dead in Ga-rankuwa, Maleka was one of the 4 CIT Heist suspects that were shot dead by police in Ga-rankuwa North of Pretoria.
Maleka once went viral on social media after stealing a phone at a Freshers Ball at Wits University.
“It is reported that the multi-disciplinary team received intelligence on a group of suspects planning to commit a CIT robbery between North West and Gauteng,” said police spokesperson Colonel Katlego Mogale.
She said a team to observe the men was set up.
“Their vehicle was spotted as it turned towards Mmakau and a high-speed chase, and later, a shootout ensued as soon as the suspects realised they were about to be captured.”
Mogale said the suspects lost control of their vehicle and crashed into a fence.
“Four of the suspects were fatally wounded and three unlicensed firearms, two handguns as well as a rifle were recovered from the scene.”
Mogale said the investigation continues.
