Information reaching Kossyderrickent has it that POPTROPICA’ is no longer ending and is now free for everyone this month.
Poptropica, the nostalgic online game for many who grew up in the early 2000s, isn’t shutting down at the end of the year, the company said in a social media post.
“So, this is awkward. We’re still here. And will be on December 31st. But super sweet that you all love us so much that the thought of us leaving got us so much attention!” Poptropica wrote in a post on X, formerly Twitter.
Some games included Bedrock Bobsleddin’ Blowout for the Fruity/Cocoa Pebbles cereal and Oreo O’s Creme Team Journey themed for the Oreo O’s cereal. Later on, cereal boxes would have codes called Postokens that could be used to unlock exclusive games, cheats, and extra levels.
“That isn’t our account! Any news about Pop will always come direct from the source in-game, on the blog, or our IG + Twitter,” Poptropica wrote on X.
The company also said it’s free to play this month. The game started out as a free online game with options to purchase outfits and accessories but now has a membership that renews every month, three months, or six months.
“I’m so glad it was fake. Thought we almost lost another legend from our childhoods. couldn’t bear that after losing Club Penguin,” a user on X commented.
A smart and creative marketing tactic, the Post/Kraft company (the one behind everyone’s favorite cereals and mac and cheese) created a website in 2001 that had games featuring the cereals of the brand like Fruity/Cocoa Pebbles, Honeycomb, and Golden Crisp among others.
