Information reaching Kossyderrickent has it that Ghanaian Times confirms GRA chased Nana Kwame Bediako for tax evasion as Cheddar had been fined a total of GHS50,000.00 for his failure to file personal income tax returns from 2013 to 2016.
Nana Kwame Bediako, popularly known as Cheddar, finds himself in a series of tax evasion scandals as documents from the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) reveal that he has been slapped with significant penalties for failing to file his income tax.
The estimated total in taxes evaded surpasses GHC7 million, raising grave questions about Bediako’s commitment to transparency and financial responsibility, particularly given his aspirations to lead the nation.
The documents expose a recurring pattern of tax evasion.
Between 2013 and 2016, Cheddar incurred penalties of GHC15,222, GHC14,492, GHC13,760 and GHC6,526 for neglecting to file personal income tax returns. “It plays a vital role in identifying potential unreported or questionable income, including transactions such as asset purchases. The persistent failure to pay penalties instead of simply declaring income raises broader questions about the sincerity and integrity of someone aspiring to lead the nation,” the source said.
“It must be noted that this scandal is not just about an individual’s failure to pay taxes; it is about the societal impact of tax evasion and measuring the rhetoric of an aspiring president against his conduct. Tax evasion diminishes the resources available for essential public services, infrastructure development, and poverty eradication measures,” the source said.
