He was paralyzed from it and was put on life support, and died 5 days later. They are trying to say this is his cause of death to avoid paying out to his family.”

Former NFL wide receiver Mike Williams’ cause of death has been revealed.

Williams, 36, died in September following an accident at a construction site that left him partially paralyzed and on a ventilator. The former Tampa Bay Buccaneer had been hospitalized in an intensive care unit in Tampa Bay, Fla., following the Aug. 21 construction site accident.

ESPN reported Thursday that Williams died from a rare bacterial sepsis, according to the Hillsborough County Medical Examiner’s Office in Florida.

According to a GoFundMe set up by Latrina Moore, a steel beam fell on Williams’ head, causing a massive head injury.

“As a result of this accident, there was swelling on his brain and swelling on his spinal cord that was ruptured,” the post states. “These injuries resulted in complete paralysis in his right arm as well as his lower body from the waist down.”

Spectrum News’ Buffalo Bills reporter Jon Scott said several sources confirmed to him Wednesday night that Williams had died from the accident.

The news of Williams’ death was picked up by multiple outlets, including Gray Media Group and The Tampa Bay Times.

Arteriosclerotic cardiovascular was also listed as a contributing factor to the former NFL player’s death, ESPN reported.
