Gallery Furniture owner and Houston legend Jim “Mattress Mack” McIngvale said he was defending Astros second baseman Jose Altuve when he was caught on camera arguing with Phillies fans at last night’s World Series game in Philadelphia.
Dressed in Astros gear from head to toe, McIngvale can be seen on video sending some choice words to some Phillies fans while several other men keep him at bay. The Chronicle reached out to McIngvale to see what happened leading up to the altercation that has gone viral online.

That’s what Jim “Mattress Mack” Mcingvale had to suffer through in Game 3 of the World Series between the Astros and Phillies at Citizens Bank Park. Mcingvale, a furniture store owner and notorious sports gambler, has placed $10 million worth of bets on the Astros to win the Fall Classic – which would pay him out around $75 million total.
Unfortunately for him, the Phillies took it to the Astros in Game 3, winning 7-0 in a game where Philadelphia hit five home runs and put the contest out of reach early. Mcingvale was in attendance at the game, looking miserable after an early home run and surrounded by Phillies fans screaming their lungs out.
Houston has a chance to even the series Wednesday night in Philadelphia. They will send out Cristian Javier against the Phillies and ace Aaron Nola. If they can get it done, the series becomes a best-of-three – with two of the three games in Houston.
Astros fans all over the country will surely be watching with bated breath – though perhaps none moreso than Mattress Mack, who has a whopping $75 million sum riding on the series.
