Justin’s right eye was unable to blink and the right side of his face did not move as he began the video saying: ‘Hey everyone Justin here, I wanted to update you guys on what’s been going on.
“It is from this virus that attacks the nerve in my ear and my facial nerves and has caused my face to have paralysis,” he said.
“As you can see, this eye is not blinking. I can’t smile on this side of my face. This nostril will not move.”
“This is pretty serious as you can see,” Justin explained. “I wish this wasn’t the case but obviously my body is telling me I have to slow down. I hope you guys understand and I’ll be using this time to just rest and relax and get back to 100 percent so I can do what I was born to do.”
According to the Mayo Clinic, Ramsay Hunt syndrome occurs when a shingles outbreak affects the facial nerve near one of your ears. Prompt treatment of Ramsay Hunt syndrome can reduce the risk of complications.
Figures suggest that five in every 100,000 adults in the US will develop RHS. It poses a similar threat in the UK, according to the NHS.
Children are rarely affected by RHS, as the complication most often affects adults in their 60s.
Treatment usually involves antiviral medication. Doctors recommend seeking help within three days of the start of symptoms.
