HEALTH DEPARTMENT SPOKESPERSON CLEARED OF GROSS DISHONESTY IN RELATION TO USING FAKE MATRIC CERTIFICATE.

The Eastern Cape’s health department spokesperson, Sizwe Kupelo, was cleared of gross dishonesty charges relating to allegations that he joined the public sector 20 years ago using a fraudulent matric certificate.

He was also found not guilty of a second charge relating to using the same certificate to get a promotion. The department declined to discuss the matter with the media, but Kupelo’s union representative, Ernest Elefu, confirmed that the deputy director of the communications division had been cleared.

“The disciplinary hearing organised by the employer indeed found that at no point Mr Kupelo submitted a fraudulent matric certificate and committed an act of gross dishonesty,” said.

Kupelo faced two counts – one relating to the submission of the now dismissed fraudulent certificate for employment on 2 April 2002, and the other for the submission of the same certificate for promotion on 5 November the same year.
