Gunna’s single “Fukumean” is now getting more daily streams (3.2 Million) than Young Thug’s entire new album on Spotify.

Gunna’s new album, A Gift & A Curse, arrived on one day’s notice, with no features and a modest-charting single released just two weeks prior, yet it’s likely to get as much attention as any LP put out this summer. Part of that comes from Gunna’s reputation as a talented perennial chart-topper who has emerged from Young Thug’s shadow to be a marquee Atlanta hip-hop star, but much of the public interest goes well beyond the actual musical product.

Last week, Young Thug cryptically teased Business Is Business with a QR code that he posted not long after his longtime collaborator Gunna released a new album of his own, A Gift & a Curse. The teaser was spread online by Gunna, Metro Boomin, Drake, Chance the Rapper, Wheezy, G Herbo, Coi Leray, Lil Durk, 21 Savage, Southside, and more.

Business Is Business is Young Thug’s first project since he, Gunna, Deamonte “Yak Gotti” Kendrick, and other members of the Young Stoner Life (YSL) collective were arrested on gang-related charges in Georgia. Young Thug was charged in a grand jury indictment with participation in criminal street gang activity and conspiracy to violate Georgia’s Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations (RICO) Act. He was additionally charged with felonies related to the alleged possession of drugs and weapons. Young Thug has pleaded not guilty to the charges against him.

In May 2022, Gunna, Young Thug, and many more members of YSL, were indicted as part of a massive RICO case put forth by the Fulton County District Attorney. The case claims that YSL, besides being a record label and creative collective, has been involved in a myriad of criminal activities around Atlanta, with its A-list artists being directly implicated in the enterprise. While Thug remains incarcerated and involved in a slow-moving trial , Gunna was released last December after pleading guilty to a racketeering charge.
