AP’S ASSESSMENT: Altered photo. This photo has been manipulated to make the former president’s face and neck appear wider than they are and to make his wrinkles more pronounced. The original image, an Associated Press photo, shows Trump with a slimmer face.
THE FACTS: A photo is circulating widely on Facebook this week with claims it shows a recent image of Trump.
“Recent pic of Trump,” read the caption for the photo, which amassed hundreds of shares in just a few hours. “What’s your impression?”
Writer John Semley tweeted: “Every time I see a new picture of Trump, I expect to hear Peter Jackson’s voice explaining how they achieved such lifelike special effects.”
Actor Brian Guest wrote: “While Trump is in New Jersey he should really stop by to see Dr. Oz,” in reference to the celebrity heart surgeon endorsed by Trump who is hoping to win the Senate seat in Pennsylvania over John Fetterman.
The photo shows Trump in a golf shirt and “Make America Great Again” hat, with a wide face and neck, and large bags under his eyes. Facebook users commented that he looked especially old and sick.
However, this image is not genuine. The original photo, captured on July 28 by AP photographer Seth Wenig at the Invitational LIV Golf tournament in Bedminster, New Jersey, shows the former president with a slimmer face and neck.
Another user who posted the image to Twitter said: “Who else thinks Donald Trump spends more time in front of a makeup mirror than Melania Trump does? #TrumpToupee #TrumpRally”
The picture of the former president was taken while he was playing golf at the Trump National Golf Course in Bedminster, New Jersey, which is due to host a controversial Saudi Arabia backed LIV tournament on Friday.
The image shows Trump in a white polo shirt and red “Make America Great Again” baseball cap.
