In 1954 Late freedom fighter Hon. Sikota Wina was arrested when he, his brother Arthur Wina, friend Wesley Nyirenda and others, after smartly dressed in suits, deliberately went to one of the restaurants reserved for whites.
Mr Wina was yet again arrested on March 11, 1959 in a general round-up of “suspected subversives”.
This followed rumours that the Nyasaland African Congress was about to launch a ‘murder plot’ against white Europeans.
This resulted in the federal government declaring a state of emergency, leading to the ban of the Zambian African National Congress (ZANC) and Northern Rhodesian African National Congress (NRANC), and also jailing its leaders https://enews.daily-mail.co.zm/welcome/home
