Former Virginia police officer, Jason Colley, who is currently serving home detention for the death of his 6 month old infant daughter, has been arrested again for child abuse.

Maryland State Police (MSP) said troopers arrested a man on Wednesday, after he was accused of child abuse and other crimes.

Jason Michael Colley, 43, of Frederick Md. is the same man who entered an Alford plea in 2022 in connection to his 6-month-old daughter’s death. The baby died in 2017.

As far as the case of alleged child abuse goes, Frederick County Department of Social Services-Child Protective Services (CPS) contacted police about Colley’s alleged physical abuse of a child on Tuesday. Together, MSP and CPS investigated and determined that criminal charges against Colley were warranted. Those charges are second-degree child abuse and assault.

An Alford plea is a type of guilty plea in which a defendant maintains their innocence but admits that the prosecution’s evidence would likely result in a guilty verdict if brought to trial.

According to police, 6-month-old Harper Colley died on October 31, 2017 after sustaining the injuries that led to her death on September 19.

The State argued that the court sentence Colley to a term in the Division of Corrections within the sentencing guidelines of eight to eighteen years based on the two counts, followed by five years of supervised probation. The defense argued for a term of home detention.
