Former NBA star Amar’e Stoudemire was arrested on Saturday night on a count of misdemeanour battery after allegedly punching his daughter in the jaw and slapping her hard enough to draw blood, according to the Miami Herald. The athlete was arrested just after 10pm at his Miami condo, with a police report claiming that Amar’e had gotten upset when his daughter apparently had an attitude towards her grandmother.
“When the daughter denied having such a tone with her grandmother, she said her father then responded with ‘You’re talking back again’ and punched her on the right side of her jaw,” the report asserted. Alexis and Amar’e share four children, two of which are girls, and it currently remains unclear as to which daughter was allegedly hurt. “As a follow up, she said, he slapped her face, bloodying her nose and continued slapping her on the left side of her body.”
The daughter phoned her mother, Alexis, to tell her about the alleged volatile incident, but she was already aware that there had been some sort of dispute because Amar’e had texted her, too, saying she needed to pick up their daughter and that she was sad “because she received a whopping from him for being disrespectful and a liar.”
