Kaizer Chiefs bid farewell to defender, Siyabonga Ngezana, who has signed for Romanian Lige 1 powerhouse, Fotbal Club FCSB, formerly known as Steaua Bucharesti.




FCSB finished the 2022/23 campaign in third position and are by a large margin the best supported team in Romania with a survey conducted in June 2007 suggesting that the club accounts for approximately 42% of all Romanian football lovers.


Far greater than the teams ranked second and third, Dinamo Bucure?ti, with 12%, and Rapid Bucure?ti, with 9%.


The 26-time Romanian champions will compete in the Europa Conference League in the 2023/24 season.


An academy graduate, the 25-year-old Ngezana made 123 appearances for Chiefs with six goals and one assist since making his debut in the 2017/18 season.


Meanwhile, the Red and Blues moved to bolster their defensive options after narrowly missing out on a record 27th Liga I title to Farul Constanta in the playoffs.

“There is always a tinge of sadness when a player who has risen through the ranks here leaves the club,” Amakhosi sporting director Kaizer Motaung Jr added.

“However, Siya has had a good and substantial career at Kaizer Chiefs and feels the time is right to take up a new challenge. We appreciate his wholehearted commitment to Amakhosi and wish him well on his exciting adventure to Europe.”


FCSB have paid a total reported fee to Kaizer Chiefs of R12M ~= €600K for Siyabonga Ngezana. 


Siyabonga Ngezana’s new home will be Arena Nationala with a capacity of 55, 634.


FCSB are the most successful club in Romania with 26 league titles won.


They’ve won the Uefa Champions League(1985/86) and Uefa Super Cup(86). He is waiting on his visa and then will fly over to Bucharest for his medical.
