FACT-CHECK: Did The CSU Registrar’s Deposition Affirm/Prove That The ‘Bola A. Tinubu’ That Attended The University Was/Is Male?

VERDICT: NO/FALSE

PLOT: On 3rd October 2023, the Registrar of the Chicago State University, Caleb Westberg in a sworn affidavit confirmed that the certificate Bola Tinubu presented to INEC was in fact not given or endorsed by the university, hence it’s a fake or forged certificate.

In trying to substantiate a claim which was neither prayed for nor requested by the plaintiff (Atiku Abubakar), Mr Westberg for whatever reason stated that ‘Bola A. Tinubu’ attended the university from 1977 and graduated in 1979 and was a ‘male’. 

[Atiku had only requested the authenticity of the certificate, not the gender of the student]

However, further down the deposition, Atiku’s lawyers questioned his posit on the gender of ‘Bola A. Tinubu’ and demanded to know how he came about that information since there is a document that clearly indicates the student as ‘F’ i.e, female. 

Following this clarification request, Mr Westberg then stated that his statement on ‘Bola A. Tinubu’ being a male was in fact an assumption based on the ‘M’ on the student’s transcript, hence can’t be presented as a substantiated fact that the student is/was male because that wasn’t enough proof.

CONCLUSION: At this point, it is uncertain whether the student who attended the school was male or female because the schools Registrar couldn’t substantiate his posit, hence any story currently peddled on social or traditional.
