Education CS, Ezekiel Machogu appoints Sister Jane Mmbone as the principal of Mukumu Girls High School.
Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu has transferred Mukumu Girl’s Principal Frida Ndolo and named Jane Mmbone as the school head.
The CS has also disbanded the school’s board of management following a disease outbreak at the school that has so far left three students and a teacher dead.
“The Ministry wishes to inform the general public that this disease is likely to be a mixture of E. coli and Salmonella typhi which usually occurs if water sources are contaminated with these micro-organisms,” he said in a statement.
Escherichia coli (E. coli) is a bacteria commonly found in the lower intestine of warm-blooded organisms that can cause food poisoning.
The Ministry of Education says Government will donate water equipment worth Sh6 million for water purification.
Machogu said the changes will be done within two weeks.
This follows a ‘mysterious illness’ that has ravaged the school, leaving four people dead including three minors.
On Friday, April 14, the Health Ministry in a detailed statement said the disease could be typhoid.
Acting Director General of Health Dr Patrick Amoth said that the ministry conducted tests on food, water, and human tissue to arrive at the conclusion.
