Information reaching Kossyderrickent has it that Friends confirm Elon Musk is addicted to Ketamine to manage depression.
On Tuesday night, the Twitter CEO also tweeted: ‘Depression is overdiagnosed in the US, but for some people it really is a brain chemistry issue.
‘But zombifying people with SSRIs for sure happens way too much. From what I’ve seen with friends, ketamine taken occasionally is a better option.’ He did not respond directly to the report.
However, on Tuesday he tweeted: “Zombifying people with SSRIs [antidepressants] for sure happens way too much. From what I’ve seen with friends, ketamine taken occasionally is a better option.”
Mr Musk, who is the world’s richest man, has previously courted controversy after smoking cannabis on an episode of the Joe Rogan podcast in 2018.
Musk had been referring to selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) which are the most commonly prescribed antidepressants.
They treat depression by increasing levels of serotonin in the brain and are also sometimes used to treat anxiety disorders.
In 2018 Musk had smoked marijuana while on ‘The Joe Rogan Experience’ podcast which caused the share price of his company Tesla to plummet.
As a result, he and employees at his space exploration company SpaceX were subjected to drug tests for months after Musk said.
Microdosing – taking a small amount of a drug for alleged mental health benefits – is widespread in Silicon Valley.
The stark reality of Silicon Valley’s drug problem was exposed by the brutal murder of Cash App founder Bob Lee in San Francisco earlier this year.
The millionaire, 43, was allegedly stabbed to death by the brother of his rumored lover following a confrontation over Lee’s reported drug-taking.
Several other high-flying tech executives have previously come unstuck due to their unabated substance abuse. The popularity of ketamine has increased in recent years, with the Wall Street Journal reporting that more people are using the substance to treat depression in the US.
According to the paper, Mr Musk has told friends he “microdoses” the drug, taking small amounts to help manage depression.
He has previously claimed that he and SpaceX employees were subjected to regular drug tests after the incident.
The paper reported that several prominent figures in Silicon Valley have explored microdosing substances such as ketamine and LSD, citing benefits such as creativity.
Apple founder Steve Jobs talked openly about his use of LSD, while Justin Zhu, the co-founder of marketing start-up Iterable, was fired as chief executive in 2021 for allegedly microdosing LSD at work.
Last year, Mr Musk tweeted: “I’ve talked to many more people who were helped by psychedelics & ketamine than SSRIs and amphetamines.”
