DJ Brownskin has been arrested over his wife Sharon Njeri’s death in 2022.
Kenyans demanded the entertainer’s arrest after a disturbing video showed him casually watching as she groaned in pain after consuming what appeared to be poison.
Michael Macharia, popularly known as DJ Brownskin, is being detained at Kasarani police station in connection with the death of his wife, Sharon Njeri, by suicide.
This follows a video that surfaced in April and went viral showing DJ Brownskin in what appeared to be him recording his wife taking poison.
Detectives have arrested DJ Brownskin for aiding his wife in committing suicide. The DJ had been on the run since the news of him recording his wife as she ingested poison emerged on social media earlier this year, which evoked mixed reactions among Kenyans.
He is being investigated for the offence in connection with the death of his wife, Sharon Njeri, who died between the nights of July 29 and 30, 2022.
The DJ is in custody at Kasarani Police Station.
This is after police constable Wicks Lumumba of Kasarani in an affidavit filed before Principal Magistrate Eric Mutunga said Nieri died by suicide with the help of Njiiri.
The deceased was seen consuming poison in a video captured by Njiiri. The DJ was arrested on June 1 at a club in Kasarani as officers investigate him for aiding suicide, according to Section 225 (c) of the Penal Code, which states that, “any person who procures another to kill himself, or counsels another to kill himself and thereby induces him to do so; or aids another in killing himself is guilty of a felony and liable to life imprisonment.”
Though the video surfaced this year, DJ Brownskin’s wife died in July last year. The detective said Njiiri failed to prevent the commission of the said offence which led to the death of Njeri.
Police said Njiiri had been summoned three times by the DCI to appear and shed light on the matter but he refused and evaded police until he was traced and arrested.
The detective said he needed time to locate the parents of the deceased and record their statements on the incident.
