“That’s many years away, though,” he said. “I think we have to establish what we’re doing [at DC] first. I would be lying to say that we haven’t discussed it. But all discussions have been very, very light and fun.”

During an interview with Empire Magazine, he revealed that a crossover is a possibility now that he’s in charge of the DC cinematic universe. “I’m certain that’s more likely now that I’m in charge [at DC],” he revealed. “Who knows?”

Although perhaps best known as the director of Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy movies, Gunn recently took over as architect of the DC cinematic universe following the high-profile exit of former DC Films president Walter Hamada and has since set out a ten-year plan for DC Films.

The idea of a DC and Marvel crossover movie is something that superhero fans have dreamed about for years. Both comic book universes have a vast array of beloved characters and seeing them team up on the big screen would be a dream come true for many fans. However, the logistics of such a crossover movie would be complicated.

There are many factors to consider when it comes to a potential DC and Marvel crossover project. Both studios have their own cinematic universes to worry about and it’s unclear how a crossover would affect them. Additionally, there are legal and financial issues to consider, as the rights to different characters are owned by different companies.

Just don’t expect a Marvel/DC crossover to happen anytime soon. “That’s many years away, though,” he said. “I think we have to establish what we’re doing [at DC] first. I would be lying to say that we haven’t discussed it. But all discussions have been very, very light and fun.”

Of course, Marvel and DC have crossed over on the pages of their comic books many times, with even the Justice League and Avengers coming together at one point.

Whether or not this will ever make it to the big screen remains to be seen, but it looks as though DC is more worried about getting its own house in order for the time being.

DC has been the subject of a significant shakeup with the cancellation of Batgirl and other projects in the wake of the Warner Bros. Discovery merger.

While he did not give any concrete details about the possibility of a DC and Marvel crossover movie, James Gunn did suggest that the chances of it happening are now more likely with him in charge at DC Studios. “Who knows?” I’m certain that’s more likely now that I’m in charge [at DC], the director told Empire. However, he also noted that any crossover movie would be many years away, as DC needs to establish its own universe first.
