Cuepacs has proposed that the government declare November 18 a special public holiday for Malaysians to return home to vote in GE15.

“Some of them have to travel more than 4 hours to fulfil their civic duty,” said Cuepacs President Adnan Mat.

“The same goes for residents of Labuan, Sabah, and Sarawak who live in the peninsula; the limited flights may make it difficult for them to return home on polling day, not to mention those who live deep in the interior areas,” Adnan explained in a statement today.

Adnan says although employees are eligible to take annual leave, Cuepacs is concerned about employers who may not allow their workers to take leave earlier to return to vote.

The Election Commission had set early voting on November 15, and polling day for November 19.
