The 25-year-old trans man Malte C., who was seriously injured in a brutal attack on Saturday evening on the sidelines of the CSD festival on Albersloher Weg in Münster, succumbed to his injuries early Friday morning. This was announced by the police and the public prosecutor’s office.
“We are in deep mourning and our thoughts are with his friends, his family and those close to him,” the association, the CSD and the other queer associations in the city wrote in a press release. A picture of Malte C. was also sent for the first time, showing him at the CSD last Saturday. The rally is still going on two hours after it started.
According to an initial police estimate, 6,500 people took part in a rally against violence against queer people in Münster early Friday evening in front of the historic town hall. Local queer organizations had been planning the event, which included a minute’s silence, music and speeches, for days after anti-queer violence erupted at the city’s Pride last Saturday. On Friday morning it became known that the attacked trans man Malte C. died of his injuries in the hospital.
Malte was very proud at the CSD demo last weekend in Münster, Felix Adrian Schäper, board member of the Trans*Inter*-Münster association, told dpa on Friday. “He carried our banner at the demo. He was happier than he had been in a long time.” Hours later he was struck down. “It wasn’t the end he deserved,” says Schäper. “It was definitely an anti-queer attack.”
