Amapiano is defining the Nigerian music industry since its entrance into the mainstream in 2020 and since then, it has delivered multiple hits and heralded the rise of artists like Asake and Seyi Vibez.
On July 11, 2023, American singer Swae Lee to his Twitter account to share his excitement about getting on the Amapiano sound after recently visiting Nigeria. In the tweet, the hitmaker added a Nigerian tweet next to the word “Amapiano” and this cause an uproar on Twitter with South Africans calling him out for what they considered to be an attempt to credit Nigeria for the genre.
In his words, he simply tweeted:
“Wait till you all hear Swae Lee on Amapiano”
Away from this phase, Swae Lee has been recognised as one of the International artists who has shown a vast interest in the Afrobeat genre proving the beauty of the latest world-dominative genre.
Having disclosed his love for Wizkid and embracing his Nigerian lineage fans has flooded his comment section to recommend the perfect Nigerian star to pave his nerve through the genre.
Some fans have so far recommended Wizkid and Asake to his peak as the saga continues to trail.
