Bronx rapper Kay Flock was arrested on December 23 on a charge of first-degree murder, his attorney Scott E. Leemon confirmed to Pitchfork. According to the Daily News, Kay Flock—an 18-year-old born Kevin Perez—is suspected of shooting and killing a 24-year-old man in Manhattan on December 16. In addition to the murder charge, Kay Flock is facing two felony counts of criminal possession of a weapon in the second degree, according to online records viewed by Pitchfork.
In a formal statement, shared with Pitchfork on December 24, Leemon said:
Yesterday, I accompanied Kevin as he self-surrendered to Detectives in the 30th precinct. Arrangements were immediately made with NYPD once I learned he was wanted.
As to the charges levied against him, we have begun our own investigation into these allegations. More importantly, considering the D.A.’s significant disclosure this morning that the NYPD received a tip saying someone else is the shooter, we demanded the D.A.’s office provide prompt disclosure of the videos referenced in the complaint and more information on the tip.
We will address bail once we have had a chance to review the pertinent discovery and to further investigate the D.A.’s noteworthy disclosure.
Kay Flock broke out in August with the single “Being Honest.” A couple of months later, G Herbo joined him for a remix of the hit. Both versions of “Being Honest” are included on Kay Flock’s debut project, The D.O.A. Tape, which got released in November via Capitol Records.
A court appearance took place today (January 4). The next court appearance is set for February 10.
“I be where the stick, attachin’ the beam so I know I won’t miss, let him run, he get left like he Rick, bullets burn him, watch him clutch, happy got left in thе lift, how y’all all lookin’ up for a hit? Get it done so there’s Zs on my d**k, I try to spin through it, aim out thе whip, tryna hit a goofy in his s**t, one got hit in his back, he ain’t trip, then the other one almost went out, like a b**ch, I was prayin’ to God, make him slip, ha, I’m tryna slide on the Stoley, let him run, I’ma give him this, brodie…”
Last year, Kay Flock made some serious waves with The D.O.A. Tape, an eight-track offering with additional features from G Herbo, B Lovee, Justo B, and Lil Skrap 1090. Since then, he’s continued his momentum with well-received tracks like “Shake It” with Cardi B, Dougie B, and Bory3000, “Make A Movie” with Fivio Foreign, “Brotherly Love (Pt. 2),” and “DOA” with Set Da Trend.
In a past interview with XXL, Flock revealed his most memorable career moments to date:
“MSG, Meek Mill. Shoutout Mill for bringing me out. And Rolling Loud. I wasn’t even nervous though, I was happy more. I’m not gon’ lie, I was nervous a little bit, but not to the point where I’m scared to perform. That was my first big show, but that s**t felt good. I went out there, did what I had to do. They would turn up right with me.”
