Coi Leray not feeling Latto’s new song that mentions her and dissed her over body.
Amid the success of “Players,” the rapper opened up about a leaked demo of her Nicki Minaj-assisted single “Blick Blick.” Back in November, a version with Latto surfaced online, drawing questions over who wrote the song.
In an interview with Billboard, Coi claims she “had no clue” that Latto had also cut the record, which sounds similar to her version.
She wrote: “Latto bye . 😴 here you go taking about my body. Please do not come on here and talk about nobody BODY. Lol like seriously . Out of all things . Lmaooo ya blunt my size ? Lmaooo this shit is never ending.”
“I heard Latto’s version and the verses sound different but the hook was there,” she said. “A lot of great music hooks are written and I don’t know — it’s a formula. I’ve only been in the industry for four years, and now I’m at point where I feel like I’m breaking superstar status and I’m learning that formula.”
Coi went on to say that she’s learned the formula for making a hit. “I’m gonna be at a point where I’m making those f**ing songs for the biggest of the biggest just off the simple fact I learned the formula. I didn’t learn it on my own, I had to be in the studio with these other amazing creatives to be like, ‘Alright, this is how this works.’”
The leak in question, notably, featured Latto versions of Leray’s “Blick Blick” and BIA’s “Whole Lotta Money.” The tracks were leaked to social media following Latto and Nicki Minaj’s public back-and-forth, which—as previously reported—was quite extensive. Minaj, of course, is featured on the studio version of “Blick Blick” and was also enlisted for BIA’s “Whole Lotta Money” remix.
As for those sticking with their criticism, Leray noted this approach was “ignorant” and showed a lack of understanding of the process.
“It’s not a funny situation,” she said.
BIA, meanwhile, shared several tweets in response to similar criticism spurred by the leaked Latto tracks. In one tweet, she pointed out how easy it is to simply look up the songwriting credits for a song, using her own “Whole Lotta Money” in a screenshot-captured example.
“But Ntm on this bc I really don’t care who writes and who doesn’t,” BIA added in another tweet before sharing additional examples of her credits. “I only care about making the best song I can make.”
