Information reaching Kossyderrickent has it that Nigerian lawyer, Oddy Ayokunle Odekunle, has died of prolonged battle with gastric cancer. 
Ayokunle Odekunle’s demise has sent shockwaves within the legal fraternity and political landscapes, both in Nigeria and Canada. His intellectual prowess and dedication to law, coupled with his insightful social media commentary, had earned him respect from peers and political figures alike. Ifeanyi Okowa, a former governor of Delta State, joined the world in mourning this significant loss.

Odekunle, popularly known as Oddy, died on Friday after a prolonged battle with gastric cancer which was diagnosed in 2020.

Kaycee Madu, Nigerian-born former minister of justice and solicitor-general of Alberta, announced Odekunle’s passing on Saturday.

“It is with profound sadness that I bring to you that our dear brother, friend and colleague Ayokunle Odekunle @oddy4real lost his courageous battle with stage 4 cancer this evening,” Madu wrote in the statement posted on X(formerly Twitter).

Ayokunle Odekunle was a remarkable legal practitioner with an impressive career spanning Nigeria and Canada. A University of Ibadan Law graduate, Odekunle was called to the Nigerian Bar in 2012, and despite his terminal illness, he achieved the remarkable feat of being called to the Alberta Bar in 2023. His legal career in Nigeria involved representing multinationals in high-profile cases, while his practice in Canada encompassed Family Law, Immigration, Wills and Estate, and general litigation.
