Jazmine Sullivan’s mother, Pam Joi Sullivan, has passed away as she died of breast cancer.
On Saturday (July 22), Jazmine Sullivan’s mother, Pam Joi Sullivan, passed away.
The singer revealed the tragic news in an Instagram post on Monday that read, “I don’t have the words yet mommy. So for now I’ll say thank you thank you thank you. Rest now butterfly [blue butterfly emoji] 10/26/58- 07/22/23 [broken heart emoji]”
Jazmine has been open about her mother, her impact on her life, and her mother’s battle with breast cancer. In 2021, she shared an endearing carousel of pictures and messages on Instagram.
I also spoke with Jazmine about her mother at the Time100 Most Influential People gala in 2022. When I asked her about who was influential in her life, without hesitating, she said her mother. Her mother stood beaming right by her side.
“Our days were no longer filled w convos of u telling me to hurry up and finish my project, but of chemo treatments and hospital visits. S**t got real, fast,” Sullivan wrote. “But if being your daughter has taught me one thing it is how to work w something ugly, painful even, and make it a work of art. So that’s what We’ve been doing since October. Trying to make beauty of this ugliness.”
Jazmine also posted about her mother in October 2016, celebrating her life, strength, and inspiration. The words are sweet, powerful, and further show the bond the two had.
