Halifax police are investigating a “suspicious death” that happened in the city Sunday morning.

Multiple online tributes, media sources and a GoFundMe page have identified the victim as 36-year-old Pat Stay from Dartmouth, N.S.

Halifax Regional Police have not identified Stay as the victim, but Stay’s brother, Peter Stay, confirmed the news to CBC.

Police said they were called to the 1600 block of Lower Water Street around 12:36 a.m. AT.

Stay was taken to hospital, where he later died. The stabbing happened early Sunday morning in downtown Halifax, according to police — and while the authorities haven’t confirmed Pat as the victim … his brother, Pete Stay, confirmed his death to CBC.

Police responded just after 12:30 AM, and Pat was taken to a hospital … but he later died from his injuries. No one’s been arrested for the stabbing.

Pat was from Dartmouth, Novia Scotia … hardly a hotbed for hip hop, but he was still revered within the industry for his freestyling during live rap battles.

According to the outlet, Stay hailed from Dartmouth, Nova Scotia in Canada. It appears that Pat Stay was both his given and stage name. Just days ago, Stay, known for his towering figure, big voice, and penchant for humorous punchlines, realized a diss track towards The Game beckoning the Compton rapper to respond.

Maryland battle rapper Tay Roc shared a video of his battle with Pat Stay, along with a loving message for his fallen comrade via Twitter. Roc was joined by many others in the community, and those just outside of it including the likes of rapper Ransom, Mickey Factz, and The Alchemist among others.
