During its heyday, millions of children sat patiently through BBC Newsround for their weekly (and later twice-weekly) dose of the goings-on at the fictional North London comprehensive school.
In 2002, the school moved wholesale (and quite implausibly) to Liverpool. Redmond, whose creations also included Hollyoaks and Brookside, wanted his audience to hear regional accents other than those from London.
In 1978, screenwriter Phil Redmond brought gritty, inner-city school life to our TV screens in the former of Grange Hill.
Rather than the rose-tinted nonsense of previous school dramas, Grange Hill incorporated often unwieldy issues of the day such as bullying, racism, drug abuse, teenage pregnancy, suicide and domestic violence.
