The actor Pedro Paulo Rangel died in the late hours of this Wednesday (21). The information was confirmed by the family.
The 74-year-old artist had been admitted to the CTI of Casa de Saúde São José, in the South Zone of Rio, to treat a decompensation of pulmonary emphysema, since the 30th of November. The cause of death has not yet been disclosed. Among Pedro Paulo’s most outstanding works are the soap operas “Gabriela” (1975), “Saramandaia” (1976), “Vale Tudo” (1988), and the humorous “TV Pirata” (1988).
Pedro Paulo’s first contact with professional theater was in 1968, in the play “Roda Viva”, by Chico Buarque, under the direction of José Celso Martinez Corrêa. After passing through TV Tupi in São Paulo, the actor debuted on TV Globo in 1972, in the soap opera “Bicho do Mato”. His first successful character was Juca Viana, in “Gabriela”. In the soap opera, Pedro Paulo starred in the first male nude on television, in a scene that showed the couple Juca and Chiquinha (Cidinha Millan) being thrown in the street, after being caught in bed.
After several theater plays and some films during the 70’s and early 80’s, such as “Menino do Rio” (1982), Pedro Paulo returned to work at TV Globo. Invited by Jô Soares, the actor participated in sketches in the humorous program “Viva o Gordo” (1982). The result pleased him and he was invited to join the cast of the second season of “TV Pirata” (1988). In 1992, a new role marked the career of Pedro Paulo Rangel, the homosexual Adamastor, from “Pedra sobre Pedra”. He then made the soap operas “O Mapa da Mina” (1993) and “A Indomada” (1997), in addition to the miniseries “Engraçadinha”. Among other works by the actor are the soap operas “Pedra Sobre Pedra”, “Vale Tudo”, “A Indomada”, “Saramandaia”, “O Cravo e a Rosa” and “BelÃssima”, in addition to series and miniseries, such as “A Muralha “, “You Decide”, “A Diarista”, “Os Aspones” and “Under New Management.
Born in Rio de Janeiro on June 29, 1948, Pedro Paulo Marques Rangel was a resident of Rio Fulfilled, in the North Zone of the city, when he had his first contact with the theater, at the age of 11. Fascinated by the discovery, he decided to become an actor. It was at that time that he wrote a play so he could act: “When Parents Come on Vacation”. Later, in the theater group at Igreja de Santa Terezinha, he met actor Marco Nanini, with whom he would study at the National Conservatory of Theater, currently the Theater School of the Federal University of the State of Rio de Janeiro (Unirio).
