The Confederation of African Football (CAF) hierarchy has expressed ignorance over the disqualification of Zambia skipper Barbara Banda from the ongoing Africa Women Cup of Nations in Morocco due to ‘medical reasons’.
When asked by a journalist from BBC during the press briefing in Morocco on Sunday why Banda was allowed to play at the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games and disqualified from the Africa Women Cup of Nations, a senior CAF official who sat next to president Patrice Motsepe said their medical committee had not made such a decision to rule the player out.
“Regarding the player Barbara Banda from Zambia, we have checked with our medical team; I know you have asked this question before and according to our medical committee, there is no such decision from them,” a CAF official said.
On Friday, Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) issued a statement saying Banda would not be available for ‘medical reasons’
