‘Boy Meets World’ actress Trina McGree revealed that the show’s creator allegedly told her to “turn down” her blackness while filming episodes involving her character, Angela Moore. (Read More Here).
McGree appeared on an episode of the “Pod Meets World” podcast, where she discussed her experience on set with her former costars, Danielle Fishel, Rider Strong, and Will Friedle. She said she would change her speaking voice on set at the suggestion of showrunner Michael Jacobs. He reportedly told her to “just turn down the Telma Hopkins about eight notches,” referencing Harriet Winslow’s sister from Family Matters, while filming an episode centered on Angela.
“Coming from Black sitcoms, I always had to have like a Black meter. On ‘Boy Meets World,’ my Black meter was probably down to about a two.” Friedle also apologized to McGree again about his “Aunt Jemima” comments in Monday’s episode. In 2020, McGree went on her official Twitter account and revealed Fridle’s racially-charged comments about her on-set behavior.
