President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has nominated former Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Festus Keyamo, as minister.

Tinubu announced this in a letter addressed to Senate President Godswill Akpabio and read during plenary on Friday.

The president also withdrew the ministerial nomination of Maryam Shetty from Kano and replaced her with Dr Mairiga Mahmud.

Keyamo and Mahmud’s nomination follows the recent submission of the second batch of ministerial nominees by President Tinubu’s Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila, on Wednesday.

There are now 48 ministerial nominees.

Mr Tinubu’s nomination of Ms Shetty drew knocks and kudos several quarters, with many in her home state raising questions on social media about her personal life whilst other praised the president for nominating a young as a minister.

She had since been replaced.

Mr Keyamo, a lawyer and activist, is set to return to the Federal Executive Council, after serving as minister of state for Niger Delta and minister of labour and productivity under then-President Muhammadu Buhari.

He also served as spokesperson for the Tinubu/Shettima Campaign Organisation in the 2023 presidential election cycle.

Among the nominees are Ahmed Tijani, Bosun Tijjani, Ishak Salako, Tunji Alausa, Tanko Sununu, Adegboyega Atiku Bagudu, Bello Matawalle, Ibrahim Geidam, Simon Lalong, Lola Adejo, Shuaibu Abubakar, Tahir Mamman, Aliyu Sabi, Alkali Ahmed, Heineken Lokpobiri, Uba Maigari, and Zephaniah Jissalo.
