The immediate former Ainabkoi Member of Parliament (MP) William Chepkut is dead. (Read More Here).
Chepkut died on Saturday morning, October 8, at Mediheal Hospital in Parklands, Nairobi. Chepkut’s younger brother Enock Kosgei told The Standard that the ex-lawmaker’s health had, of late, improved, and that they hoped he’d fully recover.
Chepkut served as the MP for Ainabkoi Constituency in Uasin Gishu County between 2017 and 2022.
In the recent general election, he lost the Ainabkoi parliamentary seat to his archrival Samuel Chepkong’a.
In the August 9, 2022 elections, Chepkong’a of the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) beat Chepkut, an Independent candidate.
He has been unwell for sometime and was admitted to hospital for long between late last year and early this year.
The former MP served the constituency between 2017 to 2022. He was elected as an independent candidate.
In 2022, his bid to defend the seat as an Independent candidate again flopped.
He lost to Samwel Chepkonga of UDA party.
He was a highly humorous politician who always referred to himself as “the only soul alive”.
He was a down to earth MP, highly social and frequently caused surprises when he visited his constituency using boda boda.
Previously he operated two popular hotels in Eldoret where he also owns a farm in Ainabkoi constituency.
