Veteran Actress Cherie Gil passed away today at 5pm, Anabelle Rama confirmed. (Read More Here).










Rumours have it that Cherie Gil had died after battling with bald cancer. Cherie Gil was one of a kind. She made kontrabidas more exciting. One of the most glamorous stars to grace Philippine cinemas for sure. She exuded class and poise every time you see her. What a loss for us. Here are some of her roles from the 80s/90s/00s/10s.

BIOGRAPHY of Cherie Gil: 

Cherie Gil was the daughter of Filipino singer-actors Eddie Mesa and Rosemarie Gil, and sister of fellow actors, Michael de Mesa and Mark Gil.





She was married to Rony Rogoff, a violinist; the couple had two children, Bianca and Raphael. She also had another child, Jeremiah David (Jay), from a previous relationship with actor Leo Martinez.

“In a career spanning nearly 50 years, Gil established a reputation as a “quintessential kontrabida” in Philippine cinema. She is a FAMAS Award winner a recipient of Ani ng Dangal (Harvest of Honor) award by the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) and a Hall of Famer at the Metro Manila Film Festival in the ‘Best Supporting Actress’ category. In 2015, she won the highly coveted “Best Actress” trophy at the ASEAN International Film Awards. The same year, she also won “Best Lead Actress in a Foreign Language Film” at the 2015 Madrid International Film Festival.[10] In 2019, she won her first Gawad Urian Award in the category “Best Supporting Actress” for her portrayal in Citizen Jake.





“She began her career as a child actress at the age of 9, and is best known for her role as Lavinia Arguelles in Bituing Walang Ningning where she uttered the iconic line “You’re nothing but a second-rate, trying hard copycat!” to Dorina, Sharon Cuneta’s character.”
