Valentino Acuña was casted as a stunt double for young Lionel Messi’s dribbling scenes in the 2014 documentary “Messi” due to his left foot and dribbling abilities.
The 17-year-old midfielder rose through the ranks at Newell’s Old Boys, like Messi, and plays in their academy.
Today, he scored for Argentina at the FIFA U-17 World Cup.
The documentary of Lionel Messi was released in 2014. The makers needed a young boy with a Messi-like ability to recreate his childhood. A kid named Valentino Acuna did the role brilliantly. Little did fans know the same Valentino Acuna will now be impressing for club and country in real life. He is also a boy from Rosario, like Messi. The 17-year-old plays for Newell’s Old Boys and is currently in Indonesia, representing Argentina in the U17 World Cup. He scored in the team’s 3-1 win against Japan, and this was his first-ever goal in the competition.
Earlier this year, he represented Argentina in the U17 South American Championship. He played nine games and managed to score a goal too. Unfortunately, the Argentines lost the game against Brazil in the final with a 3-2 scoreline.
