Move over, Joey Chestnut. There’s a new fan favorite at the 2023 Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest.
One of the participants competing at this year’s event has the nickname “Glizzy Lizzy.”
We’re not kidding. ESPN placed the spotlight on Elizabeth “Glizzy Lizzy” Salgado during this Tuesday’s coverage. “Even as a participant in Nathan’s Famous Hot Dog eating contest, Glizzy Lizzy is a wild nickname,” one fan tweeted.
Another fan said, “An absolutely wild nickname to be posted on the official SportsCenter page.”
“Glizzy Lizzy just might be my spirit animal,” a third fan wrote. It’s the Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest on the famous corner of Surf and Stillwell where thousands gather to watch the Major League Eating event every July 4. Sudo returned to form in 2022 after taking the year off due to pregnancy. She didn’t miss a beat, reclaiming her title once again by inhaling 40 hot dogs and buns in 10 minutes. On the men’s side, Chestnut is recovered from a leg injury that hampered him in 2022. To be frank, it was a disappointing showing by his standards — only managing 63 hot dogs and buns. That was coming off a record-setting 2021 when Chestnut set the new record of 76 in just 10 minutes.
