The founder of Mamee-Double Decker Sdn Bhd, Pang Chin Hin has passed away at the age of 96.
He launched the Mamee noodle snack in 1974 after his son, Pang Tee Chew, noticed rubber tappers eating uncooked instant noodles straight from the pack.
Pang was also responsible for other products such as the Mister Potato Chips and Double Decker shrimp crackers.
He leaves behind three sons and three daughters with his late wife.
Brands such as Mamee Chef, Mister Potato and Monster have become household names.
Pang also gave away to charity generously, focusing on education and community development needs.
His family has given an assurance that his charitable spirit would live on with a pledge to donate all money collected from well-wishers at the funeral to the Melaka Pay Fong Secondary School, Malim Primary School and the Melaka Hainan Association Education scholarship.
He is survived by three sons and three daughters.
Pang started out as a used car dealer before deciding to open a small factory in Melaka to produce instant noodles in 1971.
A year later, the company launched its first product known as Lucky Instant Noodle, which unfortunately did not succeed commercially.
In 1974, his son Pang Tee Chew saw rubber tappers eating uncooked instant noodles straight from the package.
This gave Pang the idea to make instant noodles that had additional flavouring.
