Information reaching Kossyderrickent has it that The Chief Executive officer of Max Air, Bashir Mangal, is dead.




A statement made available by the media consultant to the airline said Mangal died in the early hours of Friday, December 23, 2022.


The statement read in part, “Inna lillahi wa inna Ilaihi rajiun, this is to announce the death of our beloved brother Alhaji Bashir Barau Mangal Vice Chairman/ CEO Max Air in the early hours of today Friday 23rd December 2022.May Allah grant him Jannatul Firdaus.”


Reacting to the development, the Peoples Democratic Party presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, said the late aviation expert was known for his diligence in business and patriotism.


“I am saddened to hear of the death of Bashir Barau Mangal, the Vice Chairman and CEO of Max Air.

I knew Bashir as a man with a high entrepreneurial spirit, having come from a renowned Bangal family of Katsina, who are well known for their diligence in business and patriotism in nation-building.


“He distinguished himself in the aviation industry by maintaining standards that ensured comfort to the flying public and, by extension, was known to have brought smiles to those around him.


“On behalf of my family and my team, I offer my condolences to the Mangal family and pray for Almighty Allah to grant his soul eternal rest,” he wrote on his Facebook page on Friday.


Mangal is the younger brother of Dahiru Mangal, chairman, Max Air, and one of the richest men in Katsina state.


According to the aviation company, Mangal was a seasoned administrator, an excellent manager of human and material resources, a consummate investor, and “a complete gentleman whose words are his bonds”.


In his condolence message on Twitter, Atiku Abubakar, presidential candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) said the deceased distinguished himself in carrying out his role in the company.


The deceased was described as a seasoned administrator, an excellent manager of human and material resources, a consummate investor and a complete gentleman whose words were his bonds.


Bashir Mangal was at the route of the establishment of Max Air who worked ardently with his brother to actualise the dream of operating an airline, which has been doing very well over the years.


The airline was established in 2006 as Mangal Airlines and rebranded Max Air in 2008. It operated its first commercial flight to King Abdulaziz International Airport from Kano.


The airline began its operations with two Boeing 747-400 aircraft for its Umrah and Hajj operation services.


Max Air is one of Nigeria’s leading airlines operating a domestic, regional and international flight network.


In June 2018, Max Air began domestic operations to three destinations, which include Abuja, Lagos from the airline’s main hub (Kano). On November 1, 2018, Max Air announced two new routes to its domestic operations, which include Port Harcourt and Yola as part of its expansion drive.
