Information reaching Kossyderrickent has it that Top US journalists confirm Former Cowboys tight end Gavin Escobar has died in rock climbing accident. (Read More Here).



Former Cowboys tight end Gavin Escobar was identified as one of two rock climbers found dead in California on Wednesday, USA Today reports. Escobar was 31.


Chelsea Walsh, 33, was the other victim and both Escobar and Walsh were from Huntington Beach.


They were found in a remote area near Tahquitz Rock in the San Bernardino National Forest. Officials said they were climbing a rock face.


The Cowboys made Escobar a second-round selection in 2013, and he played four seasons in Dallas. He finished his career with the Ravens in 2017.


He played 64 games with seven starts in his five NFL seasons and made 30 catches for 333 yards and eight touchdowns.


Escobar became a firefighter in Long Beach following his football career.


“It is with deep sadness that we announce the off-duty death of Long Beach Firefighter Gavin Escobar. Hired on February 5, 2022, Firefighter Escobar was assigned to Fire Station 3 on B-shift,” a post on social media from the department read. “Firefighter Escobar leaves behind his wife and two young children.”


The Riverside County sheriff’s coroner’s office on Thursday identified Escobar along with one other climber, 33-year-old Chelsea Walsh. Firefighters found them dead after a climbing accident involving two people was reported around noon Wednesday near Tahquitz Rock in the San Bernardino National Forest.


Officials indicated Escobar and Walsh died at the scene while climbing a “rock face.”


A small amount of rain fell in the area earlier in the day, but officials didn’t immediately say if weather was a factor in the deaths.


Escobar was the Cowboys’ second-round pick in 2013 and spent three seasons with them. He also spent time with the Kansas City Chiefs, Baltimore Ravens, Cleveland Browns and Miami Dolphins. He last played in the NFL in 2018, finishing his career with 30 catches and eight touchdowns.


Escobar had been working as a firefighter in Long Beach, California, since February. In a social media post, the Long Beach Fire Department said Escobar leaves behind a wife and two young children.


The 31-year-old went to high school in Orange County, California, and went to college at San Diego State University.


Escobar’s mother told WFAA in a brief statement, “He was a great father, husband, and son. Just heartbroken now.”


After leaving football in 2019, Escobar would become a firefighter for the Long Beach Fire Department.


The department mourned the death of Escobar, saying he was hired on Feb. 5, 2022.


“It is with deep sadness that we announce the off-duty death of Long Beach Firefighter Gavin Escobar,” the department said in a Facebook post.


The fire department said Escobar had a wife and two children.
